In purchasing water garden pumps, first of all, you need to calculate your water garden’s volume. Use the simple equation of width multiplied by depth multiplied by length. This will give you the volume of your water garden. Then, you can contact a water garden supplier to find out how many gallons your pond will hold based on its volume.
Secondly, you should select the type of water garden pumps you prefer. Submersible pumps are best for garden ponds containing up to 1,000 gallons, while external pumps are suggested for larger ponds. Select also a mag-driven pump instead of a direct-drive pump. Mag-driven pumps are more reliable.
Lastly, pick the size of water garden pumps you need. The water in your garden pond should circulate once every two hours. If your pump is not heavy-duty enough, it will not circulate your water properly, causing your water garden’s water to stagnate.
That is why, most water garden suppliers have charts to let you know the recommended size of pump for the size of your water garden. If you have fish, fountains or waterfalls in your water garden, you will need to go one size larger on your pump.
Meanwhile, for installing water garden pumps, you should select first a submersible pump that meets the requirements for the sizes water garden pool you installed earlier. Depending upon the location of your pond, you may or may not have access to an electrical outlet. Then, consider whether you will need an electric or solar powered pump. Remember to keep electrical cords outside of the pool during installation and while the pump is running to avoid electrocution with the water.
Secondly, place a large rock or brick with a flat surface at the bottom of your pool. Using an elevated surface will ensure the pump is not clogged with debris that settles on the bottom of the pond over time. Related to the location of the water garden pumps, you can place them up to your personal preference and the size of your pool. Just be sure that if the pool is long, center the pump or install a second pump to maintain water movement in all areas of the pool.
Thirdly, install the filtration system onto the water garden pumps. The filter belongs at the front of the pump and will clean the water as it enters the filter. But, do not forget to connect the water hose to the pump.
The pump will draw the clean water from the filter through the hose and up to the outlet where it will release the water into the pool. Last but not least, before testing the water garden pumps, fill your pool with water and de-chlorinate it. Turn your pump on and watch your water garden come to life.
